A catalytic converter's primary function is to control exhaust emissions by converting pollutants and toxic gases into emissions containing a greatly reduced level of toxicity. To comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's stricter regulation of exhaust emissions, most vehicles manufactured after 1974 are required to be equipped with catalytic converters. Catalytic Converters are offered in two specific styles - Direct-Fit (otherwise referred to as bolt-on), and Universal-Fit (usually require some form of welding and possible modification to the exhaust system We recommend getting a direct-fit catalytic converter if your vehicle has an exhaust system that is still factory-fitted or OEM-styled.
